former savoy cinema in dalston to be restored
Hackney is set to get a brand new creative space thanks to the peeps behind Village Underground who are planning to restore the former Savoy Cinema in Dalston and turn it into the Hackney Arts Centre. The main auditorium of the cinema, built in 1936, has been unused for years so this will be renovated, keeping the original art deco features and two other areas of the building which have been used as bar and cafe will be given a makeover. Once the place has been shown a little love, the Hackney Arts Centre will host everything from debates and comedy to live music, giving upcoming artists and creatives a space to do their thing.
