The Royal Exchange Is Getting Two New Spots

Des Gunewardena will open a bar and a restaurant, Engel and Jang, this summer

As Chief Executive of D&D London, Des Gunewardena oversaw a multi-million-pound restaurant empire that spanned the UK, Paris, New York and beyond. But, he stepped down in 2022, choosing to launch his own group of companies, D3 Collective, and details of the first concepts to come out of Gunewardena’s latest venture have just been announced.

They’re called Engel and Jang, two separate spots housed under the same roof at the City’s Royal Exchange, both of which will open in June. Engel is being billed as a cocktail bar and performance space inspired by 1920s Berlin with a list of twists on classic drinks, as well as an Austrian and German café/bar menu. Meanwhile, Jang will be an all-day, modern Korean and Japanese restaurant led by chef Dana Choi, previously of Jinjuu in Mayfair and Seoul Bird.

That’s all we have for now, exact details of the menu are yet to be released – we’ll bring you more info as we get it.

Opens June 2024
