FOODCYCLE LONDON IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS

The food charity FoodCycle is launching a new project in South Lambeth to help combat food poverty in the area. FoodCycle is on the hunt to recruit volunteers and project leaders who can help with food collection, surplus food coordinating, cooking and hosting from 12.30pm on Fridays. Their aim is to reduce food poverty and loneliness by inviting anyone for a meal and a chat at Christ Church Community Hall in South Lambeth. A survey conducted by the charity found that 75% of previous FoodCycle guests said they have experienced loneliness and 62% of previous FoodCycle guests said they simply could not afford to buy food.

As well as making sure people don’t go without food, FoodCycle uses surplus produce and ingredients to feed their guests, so they’re helping to tackle food waste at the same time. The South Lambeth project has flexible volunteer roles without a minimum time commitment available, with weekly Friday slots available on an ad hoc basis, so check out the website if you’d like to get involved.
