Proper British cider is having a moment as drinkers are becoming more discerning about what goes into their glass and the craft behind how it gets made. People are moving away from mass market ciders (made from water and apple concentrate) to small batch ciders, made using traditional methods that have all the same complexity and expression as wine. Run by fine cider merchant Felix Nash, the Fine Cider Company specialises in British ciders and perries sourced from all over the country. As well as supplying the likes of St. JOHN, The Fat Duck and KOL, the biz also organises the London Cider Salon at Tate Modern, giving people the chance to taste craft ciders and meet the producers behind them.
You can shop the Fine Cider Company’s full range online but it’s worth swinging by the London Fields shop (it’s under the arches, close to e5 Bakehouse and Wonton Charlie’s). There are always samples on offer so you can try before you buy, and if you wanna dive into the world of cider even more, there are tastings held every Friday and Saturday where you can try over half a dozen styles and learn all about the cider scene.
