SOCIAL: With an eclectic mix of activities at all times of the day and week there’s plenty to explore. From bikram yoga to book groups, supper clubs to gospel choirs, there are some extraordinary experiences waiting for you. East London’s markets host some real characters – head on down to the Sunday flower market on Colombia Road to meet some of them. Hackney City farm is a great place to visit, and Victoria Park and London Fields house some great outdoor space for summer BBQ’s, music festivals and winter walks.
STYLE: There’s something for all tastes, styles and budgets in East London. From the vintage rails of Beyond Retro, MINT Vintage and the stalls at Brick Lane, to the designer brands at Start Boutique and Hub, and of course there are plenty of high street brands at Westfield, Stratford. But it is not just finding the clobber that makes East London a mecca for fashion lovers, it’s the people you’ll find within; hipsters, trend setters, geek chic, goths, indie kids, skaters. Take a walk on a Saturday afternoon and witness the style diversity that makes the area so special.
EAT: There’s been a host of new openings across East London in the last couple of years and the result is a food scene that is better than ever. Brunch has made it big with Trip Kitchen in Haggerston, Haberdashery in Stoke Newington and Railroad in Hackney. Each provides their own twist on the best meal of Sunday. Sager and Wilde has raised the wine game and Mayfields has brought fine dining to Hackney. Even takeaway has gone gourmet with the opening of Voodoo Rays. And yet the foodie scene continues to improve with the Cat & Mutton and Hill & Szrok opening on Broadway Market and Sin Noodles in Dalston. Our spies report even more exciting projects in the pipeline. Don’t even get us started on the Vietnamese scene on Kingsland Road.
