Five Feet, a neighbourhood pizzeria with a bespoke stone mill and pan pizzas, lands on Tanner Street this September.
Bermondsey Street has a new opening to get excited about. Five Feet, an independent pizzeria from Jay Patel (Legare, Luna), Roland Horne (WatchHouse) and chef and baker Jack Ellingham (Dusty Knuckle, Spring), lands on the street this September, taking over the site of the historic Dobson’s Bakery.
The name is a nod to the area’s industrial past, referencing Five Foot Lane, now known as Tanner Street. Inside, expect a 55-cover space designed by Studio Deidra Hodgson (Aesop, WatchHouse, Allpress), pairing lemon accents and cherry-toned timber with exposed brick and stucco-finished walls. There’s a communal table for bigger groups, intimate banquettes for quieter nights, and counter seating overlooking both the street and the kitchen pass. The centrepiece is a glass-panelled dough room, home to a stone mill imported from Montpellier, the first of its kind in the UK, which lets Ellingham mill his own flour blends from heritage grains grown by independent British farmers.
That mill is central to what makes Five Feet’s pizza distinct. The dough is aerated and centimetre-thick, spongy rather than chewy, and baked in seasoned black iron pans for a crisp, caramelised edge. Toppings lean heavily on independent producers, think Bermondsey Butchery meat and Westcombe Dairy mozzarella, with a rotating seasonal list alongside a few classics like a Hot Sausage Pie with fennel sausage and Calabrian chilli honey, and a White Potato Pie loaded with fior di latte, scamorza and aged cheddar. Vegan pizzas are also on the menu.

Beyond pizza, there’s a list of comfort plates: polenta fritta with vodka sauce and scamorza, wings with buffalo blue cheese or garlic butter and parm, and a stracchino-stuffed Focaccia di Recco. Dessert comes via seasonal gelato, a Pump Street chocolate cake and cinnamon crunch bomboloni. Drinks focus on low intervention wines by the glass, carafe or bottle, alongside vermouths, digestivi and organic Sabadi sodas.
Pizza’s exploded across London in the last couple of years, but Bermondsey hasn’t had a slice of the new wave action until now, and we can’t wait to see this team change that.
