Trips to the Dutch capital are about to get a whole lot easier
You’ve been able to get a Eurostar direct from London to Amsterdam for ages but the return journey isn’t quite as simple. The service back from Amsterdam to London, which also requires a connection in Brussels, has been suspended since June because of renovation works to Amsterdam Centraal station.
Now that the station has been upgraded and the complicated border control issues (thanks Brexit) have been resolved, direct trains will start running back from Amsterdam to London from 10th February 2025. The service will also be able to take more passengers as more platform space has been made available for the Eurostar trains, rising from 250 to 450 in February and then again to 650 later that spring or summer.
Not only is this a major boost for passengers but also for Eurostar and the Dutch rail manager ProRail – with the latter having to introduce speed limits on the high-speed line in October, Eurostar considered ditching the route entirely.
Eurostar tickets to Amsterdam start at £39 each way, with a journey time of 3 hours 52 minutes, which, yes, is longer than flying but is more environmentally friendly, cuts out any airport faffing, and puts you right in the heart of each capital on arrival.
