ESRA MUSLU TO OPEN ZAHTER IN SOHO

Acclaimed Turkish chef Esra Muslu – she’s opened Backyard, Auf, Kauf, and Unter in Istanbul, been Head Chef at Istanbul’s Soho House and at Ottolenghi Spitalfieds, and run a successful residency at Carousel – is opening her own spot in the capital this autumn. Zahter will be spread across four floors in an old clothing warehouse just off Carnaby Street, with an open kitchen, counter dining and an al-fresco area on the ground floor, a dining room upstairs and a private events space and cookery studio on the third floor, and it’ll be filled with furniture, crockery and artwork from Turkey.

Esra will be showcasing Istanbul home cooking, including recipes handed down by her mother, with dishes like smoked aubergine with fried chilli, cacik and muhammara with pide and lavash breads, whole artichoke with spiced rice & soured cherries, mustard marinated seabass, roasted pumpkin with tahini & walnut, and baklava with pistachios & rose petals. And though Zahter is initially opening for lunch and dinner, she’s already planning an Istanbul-style breakfast service for later down the line. Watch this space for more…
