We remember attending the reopening of The Savoy eight years ago, the check-in of the first guest Stephen Fry, a look at the most expensive suite in the house and the head bartender Erik Lorincz serving up cocktails, looking like he’d come straight from the set of a Bond film. We’ve been going back ever since and we’ve been lucky enough to find Erik serving cocktails in the American Bar nine times out of ten, even with his overflowing cabinet of awards – most recently The Best Bar in The World (2017).
So it was a surprise during our latest visit when we heard he was leaving The Savoy, although it’s not all bad news as he’s set to open his own bar in central London. PLUS he’s shaking, stirring and serving at The Savoy until May too. No word on who will fill those massive shoes at The Savoy just yet though, but we’re sure it’ll be someone special….
