Young Husband are a four piece from London who are releasing their Crystal Ep on the 21st November through Sonic Cathedral. Recorded in Hackney their DIY approach of lo-fi melodic alternative music is beautifully moving. The dreamy opener of ‘Tropic of Cancer’ holds the My Bloody Valentine vibe with layers of guitar and synth over a beautifully simple vocal melody. We’re hooked already. ‘Contantly In Love’ has an amazingly weird video. The chorus holds an epic quality, surrounded by strange eerie dark noise it suddenly becomes uplifting and bring this element of hope through their sadness.
‘Neon Heartbreak’ opens with a synth line and offers a slightly more psychedelic ride mixing the sounds of The Horrors and Crystal Stilts. The lyrics dark and sad pathe the way for an infectious guitar line, imagine what the circus would be like if you were tripping on LSD.
Last track ‘Reunion Message’ brings something new to the mix with a drum intro and swooping synth fading in slowly as the track builds then erupts with yet another brilliant guitar line. Vocals are distant and drenched in reverb, it is the most experiment track and at nearly 6 minutes long takes the listener on a journey into a fairground of creepy noise that is truly great.
This lot have certainly made an impression on us, its hard to fault this Ep. Lovers of alternative dark music with lush melody will love this nearly as much as we do.
