Hotly tipped by the majority of 2013 “ones to watch” lists, The 1975 have been hard to miss. The Manchester quartet have been steadily gaining momentum up to the release of their third E.P; Music for Cars. Lead single ‘Chocolate’ serves as a taster of what you can expect from The 1975. Slick production blended with that knack of pumping out a chorus that was built for the festival season, it’s easy to see why there’s something stirring up north.
Taking a slight step away from previous efforts and certainly taking themselves outside the box on tracks ‘HNSCC ‘ and ‘Head.Cars.Bending’; the band conjure waves of soundscapes and delay induced flurries which are a welcome addition to the band’s sound. Frontman Matthew Healy is said to be inspired by life experiences and the sights of Manchester itself which certainly shines through in the way of lyrical content.
Merging the lines in the battle between guitar VS synth bands; The 1975 should tickle the fancy of fans of Breton, The XX and James Blake with a small dash of Foals and deserve to do big things in 2013 and will no doubt be warmly received by the festival crowds this summer; They will however have to get their foot in the door ahead of other 2013 buzz bands.
The 1975 will be mounting a full U.K tour in support of Music for Cars and you can catch them on their final date at the Borderline in Camden on the 18th of February.
