ENDO and Moga take over the former Five Fields townhouse this October.
Sushi master Endo Kazutoshi is opening a new two-storey venue in Chelsea this October, taking over the townhouse that was formerly home to Michelin-starred Five Fields. It’s the latest project from a chef who’s become a fixture of London’s Japanese dining scene, and comes not long after his White City restaurant Endo at The Rotunda closed following a fire, which he followed up with a pop-up residency at Annabel’s.
The ground floor at 8-9 Blacklands Terrace will house ENDO, a 10-seat omakase restaurant inspired by the intimate sushi counters of 1920s and 30s Tokyo, the era in which Endo’s grandfather first opened his own restaurant in Yokohama. Guests will sit along a 200-year-old, 80cm-wide hinoki counter from Kyoto, with the menu built around dashi and other traditional techniques, dairy removed entirely, and all sushi using wild-caught fish from the British Isles. Key ingredients including nori, wasabi, soy sauce and rice will still be brought over from Japan.
Upstairs, Moga is a Japanese hi-fi listening bar named after the “modern women” of Japan’s Taishō era, with a tea-based cocktail menu built in collaboration with Postcard Teas and vinyl played through custom Taguchi speakers. It’ll be exclusive to ENDO diners at first, before opening up as a separate bookable experience from December.
