ELTON JOHN IS DOING THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA MUSICAL AND IT’S COMING TO THE WEST END

Now that Elton has hung up in touring boots, he’s working on a new musical

We’re not always fans of movies being turned into musicals – especially movies that have no real music connection to them at all – but there are a few cases where we’ll make an exception, like when Elton John is doing the score and the movie is The Devil Wears Prada. Yes the fashion classic (based on former PA to Anna Wintour Lauren Weisberger’s book) starring Anne Hathaway as wannabe journo Andy Sachs and Meryl Streep as fearsome Runway magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, is hitting the stage and it’ll have its premiere in the West End.

The musical has, as Miranda Priestly would say, been moving at a glacial pace. Originally announced back in 2017, the production was meant to premiere in Chicago in 2020 before transferring to Broadway but the pandemic put the brakes on. It finally went out for a test run in Chicago last year and now it seems it’s ready for its proper debut. The show, which features music by Elton John, lyrics by American musician Shania Taub and a script by Kate Wetherhead and is directed and choreographed by the Tony Award-winning Jerry Mitchell, is playing at the Dominion Theatre from October next year, following previews at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth that summer.

The casting is yet to be announced and we don’t know when tickets will be going on sale but you can sign up now to make sure you get priority access.
