The restaurant is finally opening, four years after it was first announced
We first reported that restaurateur Ellen Chew, who has Rasa Sayang, Arôme Bakery, Singapulah and Mrs Chew’s Chinese Kitchen on her books, was opening a London branch of Shan Shui back in 2021. Now, four years on, it looks like the restaurant, an offshoot of the brand named Shan Shui Social, opening on Buckingham Palace Road in Victoria will be welcoming customers very soon.
First opened in Bicester Village in 2018, followed by an outpost in Heathrow Airport Terminal 2, Shan Shui serves a range of Chinese and South East Asian dishes. At Shan Shui Social, the menu will feature a range of regional Chinese dishes, including:
- Sichuan mala wontons
- chef Jason Li’s Shanghainese kaofu – soy braised wheat gluten cubes, wood ear fungus, mushrooms and pak choy
- pan-fried Chilean seabass
- roasted pork belly char siu
- Sichuan crispy chicken la zi ji
- Cantonese braised beef noodles
- crispy aromatic duck with pancakes, cucumber and spring onion
The cocktail menu will also feature Chinese ingredients in serves like the Silk Road Lychee Manhattan and the Jade Spiced Mule. The Shan Shui Social interiors will take inspo from 1920s Shanghai and feature a speakeasy-style basement, wood panelling, mosaic flooring, neon signage and Art Deco accents, with 74 covers spread across the site’s two floors.
