EIGHT HUNDRED FLAVOURS IS BRINGING THE FOOD OF QINGDAO TO CHINATOWN

The 40-cover restaurant will specialise in street food from the southern coastal region of China

In Sichuan restaurant Barshu and dim sum joint BaoziInn, restaurateur Shao Wei already runs two well-regarded Chinatown restaurants, and now he’s adding another to his collection with Eight Hundred Flavours. Opening on Little Newport Street this August, Eight Hundred Flavours is being run in partnership with Chef Ming, a chef and restaurateur with decades of experience in top hotels and restaurants in China as well as with his own group of restaurants in and around Birmingham.

The menu at Eight Hundred Flavours will take inspo from the food Chef Ming ate growing up in Qingdao in southern China, including a range of BBQ dishes, steamed fish dumplings, guo tie (pan-fried dumplings) and house special fish fillets with noodles. The open grill will also be cooking up takeaway dishes like BBQ skewers and dumplings so if you’re working in the area, it’ll be worth popping by for a more exciting lunch than a supermarket meal deal.
