Pay 1994 prices too
St. JOHN, the iconic London restaurant that pioneered nose-to-tail dining and counted the late Anthony Bourdain among its legion of fans, is turning 30 this year. And to celebrate, the original Smithfield site will be rerunning the restaurant’s earliest menus, with dishes priced the same as they were in 1994.
The archival menus will be available on weekdays between the 9th and 27th of September and are set to feature a selection of the classics that have made St. JOHN so beloved. Expect to see the roast bone marrow and parsley salad (one of their most renowned dishes) listed for just £4.20 instead of £16, as it is in 2024, alongside the likes of tripe and onions (£7.80), devilled kidneys on toast (£8.80), Welsh rarebit (£3.50) and eccles and Lancashire (£4.00).
Sounds like this is going to be a busy time for the London institution, so if you wanna bag a booking, you’ll have to get in line (online) at 10am on Thurs 22nd August when reservations will open. But, if you miss out on a table, you can still get involved in the birthday celebrations with St. JOHN’s new anniversary merch which will include a range of t-shirts and tea towels printed with the ‘pivotal pig’ and the original 1994 menu.
