Former Victorian bank turned pizza joint turns Japanese pop-up this month as Kurobuta and Freak Scene (RIP) founder Scott Hallsworth brings his culinary expertise to new venture Double Dragon in Clerkenwell. The menu will see Scott’s well-known faves return, including tako-yaki octopus ‘donuts’ with umami mayo, salmon sashimi ‘pizza’ with truffle ponzu, BBQ pork belly buns with peanut soy, and beer marinated beef tataki with onion ponzu & garlic crisps, and fused with fresh inventions like Japanese pizzette and tapas, taking advantage of the previous owners’ wood-fired oven.
The bar at the heart of the space will play no small role – we’re talking drinks upon drinks and a not-your-typical cocktail list. The namesake Double Dragon cocktail with jasmine tea-infused gin, sake, sencha, sugar syrup and lime juice stands out, and all Freak Scene fans will be pleased to hear that the sake bombs are back. Oh, and the rock, funk and hip hop playlist is bound to keep the good times rolling.
