DISHOOM IS OPENING IN SOUTH LONDON FOR THE FIRST TIME

The new restaurant will be right next to Battersea Power Station

All you Dishoom fans who live south of the river soon won’t have to travel as far to get your fix because the Bombay-inspired restaurant is opening in Battersea this December. The 235-cover site, which will also feature a Permit Room bar and be first Dishoom to allow dogs, will have its own distinct look.

The team has drawn influence from retro-futurism to imagine what the Bombay of today would have looked like through the lens of the 1950s – they even worked with South Asian comics illustrator, Shazleen Kahn to create their very own comic strip, Choti-Dishoom, to help with the design. As well as vintage furniture from the city and an electromechanical clock from the 50s, the interiors will feature futuristic Hindi typefaces on the walls alongside artworks nodding to visionaries like inventor Shankar Abaji Bhisey and sci-fi writer Begum Rokeya.

The menu will be filled with all the Dishoom signatures you’ve come to know and love as well as a new chef’s special, Bhatti Chicken, where the bird is marinated in black spices, cooked over fire and served with fresh green chutney and onion lachcha salad. As with all Dishoom sites, for every meal served in the Battersea restaurant, a school meal will be donated to a child in need via The Akshaya Patra Foundation in India and Magic Breakfast in the UK.
