It was, then it wasn’t, then it was but somewhere else, then we had a pandemic, and now it’s happening again…..yes Din Tai Fung is actually opening in the Centre Point development, over four years after it was first announced. The Taiwanese dim sum restaurant, famed for its xiao long bao and robot waiters, has since opened sites in Covent Garden and Selfridges, and now the rollout is finally coming back round to the original location, the 290-cover space where Vivi used to be. Of course the famous soup dumplings will be on the menu, alongside an array rice and noodle dishes and other Din Tai Fung classics, like the salted egg yolk custard lava buns.
With two other Din Tai Fungs to choose from now, plus the shiny new, JKS-run Arcade Food Hall also open in the area, it’ll be interesting to see how much hype (cast your mind back to the hours-long queues that greeted the original) surrounds the opening of restaurant number three. Watch this space…..
