Sleep Inside an Old Wine Tank

Going on a boozy wine holiday, visiting vineyards and even taking part in the harvest is a popular holiday choice for Oenophiles. Plenty of vineyards have very nice hotels on site (such as the amazing Chateau La Coste) but we’re not sure if we’ve ever seen a hotel where you can actually sleep inside old wine tanks however – until now of course. Prepare to meet Dexamenes Seaside Hotel.

Dexamenes Seaside Hotel, which is due to open on the Peloponnese coast in Greece this May, has been created on the site of an abandoned winery set directly on Kourouta beach. Standing at 30 metres, the old tanks have been converted into 34 guiestrooms, many of which have a private patio overlooking the sea. The location looks pretty stunning as does the design which as been led by K-Studio – we’re talking sleek industrial cool, with steel, glass, timber and concrete in liberal use.

Given the site’s former use and the fact that the Peloponnese peninsula is home to more wineries and grape varieties than any other region in Greece, it comes as no surprise that food and wine is a big focus here. Alongside the bar-lounge and taverna, the hotel’s open kitchen lab will host local gastronomy courses and tastings, while those of a more spiritual nature will like the open-plan studio, designed for yoga sessions as well as workshops hosted by local creatives and artists.
