Charlotte Wilde, one half of Sager + Wilde, is opening her own place in Dalston this autumn. Darling will be a wine bar, kitchen and events venue, and as it’s housed in a Grade-II listed space, (the site that was last home to Chinese restaurant Shanghai) it’s gonna look pretty epic. The main bar area will have tiled walls, a leftover feature from the the old F Cooke pie and mash shop that originally sat in that spot, marble tables and candlelight, and the dining area will be under a glass-domed ceiling. The 100-strong wine list, curated by Charlotte, will include a mix of traditional and natural wines, and crucially, accessible pricing. She’s also drafted in Tom Soden of Nine Lives to oversee the cocktail menu, which’ll have twists on classic drinks, and Dan Wilson of Dandy is taking charge of the food, with a short and seasonal European menu and a bar snacks offering. Sounds like it’s gonna be another strong addition to the London wine bar scene.
