The Hollywood actor is bringing Trejo’s Tacos to Portobello Road later this year
As well as boasting a four-decade-long acting career, including credits like Machete, From Dusk Til Dawn, Breaking Bad, and Heat, Danny Trejo is a successful restaurateur with seven Trejo’s Tacos locations around Los Angeles under his belt. Now he’s bringing the concept across the pond and opening his first UK outlet in Notting Hill, which is just the first step in a Europe-wide rollout.
The two-storey space on Portobello Road, with 70 covers inside and room for 30 on the terrace, will feature a cocktail bar shaking up tequila and mezcal-infused drinks, like his signature frozen OG Margarita and Lavender Paloma as well as his own line of zero-proof Trejo’s Spirits, and an underground speakeasy where DJs will play. The food menu will showcase his approach to ‘mindful Mexican cuisine’, using sustainably sourced ingredients, and will feature all the fave dishes from LA, such as:
- breakfast burritos
- slow-roasted pork carnitas taco with fresh pineapple & fermented hot sauce
- steak asada taco with pepita pesto (a fave of Anthony Bourdain)
- roasted cauliflower taco
- shrimp tostadas
- Baja-style beer battered fish
- blackened salmon
Danny’s got Jerome Armit, who’s been involved with The Crazy Bear Fitzrovia, Newman Street Tavern and El Camion, and Yianni Papoutsis, co-founder of MEATLiquor, on board for the London operation so it’s clear he means business when it comes to taking on the city’s taco scene.
