Yo-Chi, Australia’s cult froyo brand, is opening a store in Notting Hill this week. Social media campaigns, viral videos and countless comments from Brits calling for the brand to come to the UK have fuelled the hype, with some fans even making Yo-Chi a holiday ritual when taking a trip down under.
So it’s no surprise that the news of Yo-Chi’s UK launch has been met with much excitement on social media. It adds further frenzy to London’s growing froyo trend, joining other newly-opened spots like Mast, Myka and Go Greek (imports from Manchester, NYC and LA).
The concept is simple: choose your bowl, pick from nine frozen yoghurt flavours or açaí, create your own swirl and then pile it high with more than 30 toppings, from fresh strawberries and blueberries to mini mochi, cookie cake, granola, sauces and spreads. You then pay by weight, meaning every bowl can be completely different.
In Australia, Yo-Chi has even been dubbed the “new hottest club”, with some venues reportedly attracting queues around the block and hundreds of people on busy evenings. FOMO FROYO apparently. The chain has now grown to more than 75 locations across Australia and recently expanded into Singapore. Its Notting Hill opening will mark its first European venue, with the brand promising to manufacturer the same community-first atmosphere to London.
