Colombo Restaurant Group ISSO Opens Its First Restaurant Outside Of Sri Lanka

The Colombo restaurant group brings its prawnography to Canary Wharf.

Canary Wharf is getting its first taste of ISSO, the Sri Lankan restaurant group which has now opened its debut UK site at 25 Cabot Square. Founded in Colombo as an 18-seat spot, ISSO has grown into one of the island’s most loved restaurant groups, and it’s chosen London for its first move overseas, taking a spot among Canary Wharf’s growing restaurant scene.

The 90-seat restaurant, designed with Sri Lankan designer Darron Henricus, centres on a customisable “Combo” menu: guests pick a prawn (from Wild Sea-Caught Black Tiger, Wild Sea-Caught Flower, Giant Freshwater or Colossal Freshwater), a preparation (Hot Butter Style, Jaffna Curry or Negombo Curry), and a side. Beyond that, expect their signature ISSO Wade (crisp lentil patties topped with whole prawns), ISSO Kottu Roti made with…you guessed it prawn. There’s a handful of other short eats too, the mutton rolls and tuna and egg rolls are both worth ordering. Every prawn is sourced directly from fishing communities in Jaffna and Mannar, through ISSO’s exclusive partnership with Alpex Marine.

It’s a new addition to London’s Sri Lankan food scene, which has grown rapidly over the past decade.
