CLARO TO OPEN IN SOHO

After closing his debut restaurant Londrino in Bermondsey after little more than a year in business, Leandro Carreira went west to open The Sea, The Sea with Bonnie Gull founder Alex Hunter. Bonnie Gull in Soho has now also shut up shop but the pair are flipping the site in Claro, their take on a Portuguese taberna with small plates and wines by the glass.

With only 26 covers across counter seats and high tables, it’ll be an intimate spot with views into the open kitchen. The menu will be a mix of traditional Portuguese dishes and more globally-inspired plates including rare breed pork with almonds, cabbage with black garlic biscuit, mackerel with smoked seaweed butter and Atlantic prawns with lardo & egg cake, plus sarnies like prego on brown butter brioche and crab with tanuki & cinnamon bun that you can also get to takeaway. Wine-wise, it’ll be a small and regularly changing list featuring new world, old world and organic bottles, and there’ll be Portuguese beer on tap too.

Opens spring 2020
22 Bateman St, London, W1D 3AN
