Images released by the City of London show an almost unrecognisable skyline
Last week, the City of London Corporation revealed renders predicting what the district’s famous skyline would look like by 2030. The images are based on all of the major developments that have been approved over the past 12 months, which have seen a 25% increase in the applications received and decided by the Planning and Transportation Committee.
The render shows 11 new buildings that are either under construction, consented or will be granted permission. These will not only provide office space for the growing numbers of city workers (which will rise to an estimated 700,000 by 2040) but will also play a role in the creation of more pedestrian routes, urban green space, ground floor space for shops and cultural spaces in the Square Mile’s ‘City Cluster’.
About the area’s changing skyline, Chair of the Planning and Transportation Committee at the City of London Corporation, Shravan Joshi, said: “Through our flagship ‘Destination City’ policy, we are creating a culturally vibrant, inclusive and welcoming City, enabled in part by these tall towers which help accommodate the hospitality, leisure, social and cultural destinations that are flocking to the City.”
