Chelsea Flower Show is kicking off on the 22nd May, which may not mean much to those of you who (like us) think of ‘shovel’ more of a way of eating than a gardening tool. But don’t stop reading yet, because the Intercontinental Westminster are putting on a special Edible Garden Afternoon Tea for Londoners who are more into their food order than flora and fauna.

We were lucky enough to check it out and can confirm that every morsel is a feast for the eyes as well as the tastebuds. Savouries like Miniature eggs Benedict and chicken and tarragon tear drops (our personal fave) went down a treat with the range of floral teas on offer. The classic scone gets a flowery twist, infused with Lavender and served alongside mini Chelsea buns with lemoncurd so good you’ll be asking for a second helping…that is if you can stop eating long enough to talk.

And since this is all to celebrate the Chelsea Flower Show, you’ll also be treated to free flowing Laurent Perrier Brut Champagne throughout. Don’t fill up on bubbly too early though because you’ll want to save room for the stunning final course- a garden which featuring chocolate pebbles, violet macaroons and best of all, edible soil! (don’t try that at home).

The attentive wait staff ensured our glasses were always full the stands regularly replenished, something we were very grateful for once we discovered everything did taste as good as it looked. Maintaining the best elements of a classic afternoon tea but with real creative flair, the InterContinental might have made gardening converts of us after all!
