A stay at The Dorchester can only be described as luxurious
After some toast and a fresh trim on a warm Saturday morning, I find myself strolling down Park Lane, feeling that post-coffee buzz. As I pass the luxury car showrooms, I wonder how many window shoppers have ever casually popped in to put down a deposit on a brand new Aston Martin. Me? The closest I’ve got is a cycling proficiency certificate, so let’s just say the dream is short-lived.
Soon enough, The Dorchester looms into view. The hotel, as undeniably British as afternoon tea, radiates old-school glamour. Top-hatted doormen smile and nod as they welcome guests and it’s moments like this that remind you why The Dorchester is one of London’s most iconic luxury hotels. Built in 1930, it has played host to stars, novelists and prestigious events, like Foyles Literary Luncheons, which are still held today.
The Dorchester has been undergoing a makeover, courtesy of renowned interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. The ground floor’s new look debuted last year, infusing its timeless charm with a fresh, contemporary twist. Each floor is being updated, and I was lucky enough to be staying in one of the newly refreshed suites.

The Dorchester Suite: A Home Away from Home
My pad for the evening? The Dorchester Suite, a sprawling 111m² of pure elegance. Think views of Hyde Park, a separate living room and bedroom, plus all the high-tech conveniences you could dream of. Oh, and did I mention the butler service? My butler arrives promptly, introduces himself, and gives me the grand tour, explaining where the magic buttons are (the curtains, the smart toilet, the lights and the tablet to order anything). He even pops the champagne for me, and we have a little chat. Turns out he lives in Hackney and takes the 38 bus to work. Love that.
Staying somewhere this luxurious always makes me feel like I shouldn’t disturb anything. The perfectly placed cushions? I dare not move them. And when the butler returns with my freshly pressed trousers, I want him to think I’ve kept the place pristine. The suite is magnificent though—the living room alone could make you weep when comparing it to the size of your entire house. The flowers, the art, the effortlessly chic decor, it all comes together in a way that feels both fun and utterly grand.

Naturally, I hook up my Spotify to the TV and wonder if anyone else has blasted Fontaines D.C.’s latest album here before, belting out “I know you’re watching…” with champagne in hand as I head for the shower.
Drinks at Vesper Bar & Dinner at The Grill by Tom Booton
Next up: pre-dinner drinks at the Vesper Bar. The menu is a nostalgic trip, with cocktails designed to evoke memories through taste and smell. It’s clever and a lot of fun. Despite being early in the evening, there’s a buzzing atmosphere—people chatting, bartenders expertly crafting drinks, and that perfect hum of activity that sets the tone for a good night.
Just a short walk across the lobby, I find myself at The Grill by Tom Booton, a sophisticated yet laid-back dining spot. The setting is dark, moody, and stylish, with tables spread out around a futuristic light installation. Dinner starts with Freddy’s prawn and salsa soft taco, a king prawn perched on a charred taco with a light green guacamole-inspired sauce. It’s delicate, sweet, and an absolute joy.
Next there are mussels with seaweed and parsley on garlic toast, and let’s just say I’m grateful for the extra bread to mop up every last drop of that rich, sweet sauce. For mains, it’s “Tom’s All The Chicken,” a theatrical dish served tableside, complete with chicken skin Caesar salad, beer-battered wings, and red pepper ketchup. It’s two distinct chicken experiences on one plate, and it’s incredible. I finish off with a strawberry trifle, a nostalgic, indulgent treat layered with custard, jelly, and cream. Faultless.

A Night of Luxury
Returning to the suite, I find the room transformed by the turn-down service. Curtains drawn, slippers placed neatly by the bed, and the lights dimmed just right. I slide into the enormous, soft bed and drift off, the kind of deep sleep that only comes when you’re wrapped in luxury. By morning, it’s clear—the bed is so big, half of it remains untouched.
One of my favourite things about staying in a suite like this? Breakfast in the room. Slippers on, robe tied tight, I welcome the breakfast trolley with open arms. The Dorchester’s signature Full English, pastries, fruit, and, honestly, possibly the best cup of tea I’ve ever had. There’s no better start to the day.
The Spa: Pure Bliss
The only thing pulling me out of the suite is the spa. The Dorchester Spa is one of the best in London, and it’s the ultimate in sensory relaxation. After a heavenly full-body massage, expertly administered by my therapist, I emerge feeling completely renewed.
Final Thoughts
The Dorchester is more than just a hotel—it’s an experience. From the glamorous rooms to the impeccable service, the cocktails at Vesper Bar to the delightful dishes at The Grill, everything is perfectly crafted to make your stay unforgettable.
