Motel One is a budget design hotel that looks good, is super comfortable and is conveniently located a short walk away from the beach in Barcelona…what more could you need on a city break? With natural tones, concrete tiles, huge pendant lighting and modern furniture in the lobby plus a plant and nature theme running throughout, first impressions of the space are great.

Our room was located on the 7th floor and had an amazing view overlooking Ciutadella Park. The room was small yet smart with strong and functional design like the hanging spaces and USB charging points by the bed. With a huge bed, knockout shower, comfy armchair, marble top table and reading material, there’s enough to keep you comfortable but who relaxes in their room when there’s a roof terrace? Arguably one of the hotel’s best features, the terrace offers amazing views of the city as well as being a place to unwind, relax and lay about thanks to comfy sofas and day beds. At night a bar swings into action and food from the lobby bar can be brought up for snacks and nibbles; you should definitely get on their toasties if you’re peckish. The terrace also makes for a perfect vantage point for when the sun goes down.

Breakfast is served buffet style in the lobby and you can choose to dine inside or out, yes there’s another terrace towards the rear of the hotel. A simple yet pleasing spread of croissants, cereals and fruit along with teas, coffees and juices hit the spot for us.

Motel One is modern, cheap and looks amazing. You can’t go wrong. Rooms start from €99.
