Nestled just off Singapore’s bustling Orchard Road, the COMO Metropolitan Singapore opened in September 2023
It’s a significant opening for the brand, which started life as intimate yoga studio ‘COMO Shambhala’ in Singapore nearly 30 years ago.
The hotel is set in a modern skyscraper which not only houses 156 bedrooms but also an excellent spa and gym – this is where COMO excels with its history rooted in wellness – rooftop swimming pool (more on that later), Sky Bar, brassiere, Cedric Grolet Patisserie, COTE Korean steakhouse, Club 21 fashion store and a cosmetic clinic. Singapore is one of the top destinations for plastic surgery in case you didn’t know.
Lucky then that the hotel rooms all have floor-to-ceiling windows so they feel spacious, a mini kitchenette, and even a hatch to the corridor so that you can get room service meals dropped off without having to open the door and let anyone see your face. Along with the rest of the hotel, rooms are designed by Koichiro Ikebuchi and Paola Navone (who are also behind sister COMO properties) and have a sleek minimal look, with lots of natural wood, designer furniture and mostly neutral white and warm beige colour palette. There’s almost a slick residential feel to the rooms, with a nice cosy chaise lounge by the window, electronic blinds, a TV and a Bose bluetooth speaker to boot.
The outdoor rooftop pool is jaw dropping – maybe that’s why the clinic is there, to tighten your face back up – with its clear glass floor that protrudes from the building. It’s proper Instagram fodder but also quite frightening, so you’ll 100% deserve a cocktail in Sky Bar opposite to steady your nerves….
Breakfast is served in COMO Cuisine and there’s a good mix of local dishes, healthy grub and croissants from Cedric Grolet, the famous French baker with his café below. Don’t miss COTE, the sister to COTE NYC; it’s one of the most exciting new spots in the city and, like its US siblings, it serves excellent Korean BBQ and sides. If you want to lean more into the healthy side then the gym is state-of-the-art and the COMO Shambhala Urban Escape spa features brand new treatments and technology but also brilliant massages too.
There’s a lot packed into COMO so you can happily spend a day here – which can be pretty handy when it’s monsoon season – but of course there is a huge amount on its doorstep too, including the famous Orchard Road shopping malls, hundreds of restaurants, and Hawker Centres all within easy reach. All in all, COMO Metropolitan is a fantastic base for your next Singapore stay.
