CHECKING IN | AMARI KOH SAMUI

The Amari hotel collection has a large presence across Asia’s key cities and tourist destinations, especially in Thailand. We stayed at the Amari Koh Samui, one of two resorts the group have on the island. The hotel is located north of Koh Samui on Chaweng Beach in Bophut. This is one of the busier areas of the island and is only 5km from the island’s airport. Surrounding the resort is the main road where you can find loads of shops, bars, restaurants and massage parlours.

During our trip to the Amari hotel we stayed in the grand deluxe room with an ocean view. One of the things we love about Koh Samui is its beaches; the white sand and bright blue water are so photogenic, especially from our sea view balcony. When arriving we were greeted in true Thai style with fresh coconuts and a Phuang Malai, a Thai floral garland traditionally given as an offering. The room itself was large and had a comfy king size bed, a huge double shower, 40 inch LED TV and loads of natural light that flooded the room.

The resort has two restaurants on site. Amaya specialises in authentic Thai cuisine and it’s also where the incredible breakfast is served each morning, with a full room and more dedicated to a global spread of brekkie dishes. The other restaurant at Amari is Prego, which is located on the other side of the road at the adjacent part of the resort. As the name suggests, Prego serves Italian cuisine including pasta and wood fired pizzas. For pre- and post-dinner cocktails head to the Amaya bar which is located on the waterfront and is ideal for sundowners on clear nights.

Thailand’s famous for its massages so we thought it would be rude not to cram in as many as possible during our trip. Luckily, we didn’t have to leave the resort as Amari’s Breeze spa located on the first floor of the hotel offers a range of massage and beauty treatments. We tried the signature 90-minute Muay Thai massage. The therapist used ancient Thai techniques throughout and although it wasn’t the most relaxing massage we’ve ever had, we definitely left feeling restored and well stretched.

If you’re looking to stay somewhere that has a bit more of an atmosphere, then we’d recommend you check out the Amari Koh Samui. Not only is the resort full of good energy, the prime location means everything is on your doorstep. It’s ideal for those who are travelling solo, as a couple or with a big family.
