TELEMAN: THE SONG THAT…

Their new single Glory Hallelujah, is out on 17th June and having announced a London show at The Forum 1st November, we caught up with the one and only Tommy Sanders to find all about The Song That…

Got me into music…

The Beatles | Come Together
As a kid i would listen to my dad’s LP of  Abbey Rd on heavy rotation. I found this song hypnotic and just so fucking cool. The vocal delivery, the bizarre lyrics, the simplicity of the arrangement. It was just a lesson in cool.

Reminds me of my favourite festival…

Connan Moccasin | Dolphin Love
Many many years ago me and jonny ducked into the nearest tent to escape the rain. I think it was Green man festival but i can’t be sure. Connan happened to be playing in that tent and this was our first introduction to him. It blew me away- it was beautiful. We went on to tour together and become good friends.

I love this year so far…

Anna Meredith | Nautilus
Although it was already released in 2012, its the opening track on her 2016 album ‘Varmints’ which is a really interesting collection. Her music is on another level; each time I hear it I discover something new. This piece of music swims in the dark depths of weird while really grabbing your attention and not letting you go- a very powerful song!

I want played at my funeral…

Eric Satie | Gymnopedies
This is a bit depressing isn’t it? Eric Satie’s ‘Gymnopedies’. I find them incredibly soothing while also being relentlessly bleak. So hopefully everyone will break down crying but leave feeling ok about the whole thing.

I would play in a set to impress…

Roxy Music | Remake/Remodel
I’ve always wanted to play ‘Remake/Remodel’ by Roxy Music – It would be quite a challenge to match the energy of the performance on the record, but I think I’d want to do it just for the love of playing it; its fast and fun with lots of cool riffs and breaks, shouty bits and very a song that any crowd can throw themselves around to.

Always gets me up and dancing…

Love | Seven and Seven Is
Probably the most unrelenting song I’ve ever heard. The lyrics are half sung, half shouted; its kind of angry, arrogant and full of balls. Its a huge release of energy and one of my favourite pieces of music. I often play it to people but no ones seems to really get it.

Sums me up…

Marvin Gaye | Trouble Man
I kind of read this song as trying to get troubles out of your life, and work hard, stay out of trouble…but they are always they and maybe we need them to make good music! Anyway this is a beautifully performed song, sung so sweetly.

I come up hard baby, but now I’m cool
I didn’t make it sugar, playin’ by the rules…
There’s only three things that for sure
Taxes, death and trouble.
