Mince pies hitting the shelves, Christmas lights getting switched on, Mariah Carey on the radio, festive cinemas popping up across town,…..oh yes, the holidays are coming and there’s no better way to get into the spirit than by watching a classic Christmas film, with a mulled wine in hand.
Backyard Cinema – the Wandsworth cinema is back for another series of immersive Christmas screenings and with a brand new theme for 2022. Once you’ve taken a train journey to the top of the world and seen the Northern Lights, you’ll find yourself inside a winter wonderland cinema filled with snow-topped trees and twinkling lights, where you can watch holiday classics like The Holiday, Miracle On 34th Street, The Polar Express, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Home Alone, Elf and The Muppets Christmas Carol from mid-November. The Luna Cinema – taking over Kensington Palace Pavilion from 10th – 23rd December, The Luna Cinema is back with another packed programme of Christmas classics. Greenwich Peninsula – an enchanted forest pop-up cinema is landing in Design District from 3rd – 18th December, showing festive films like Elf, Home Alone, Frozen and It’s A Wonderful Life on the weekends. Live in Concert – four Christmas classics are hitting the big screen and getting the live orchestra treatment this December. The Holiday, The Muppets Christmas Carol, and Love Actually are being played with a live musical score at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, while The Snowman and the Snowdog will be shown at Theatre Royal Drury Lane.
Kitchen at Holmes – head up to the roof of Kitchen at Holmes on Baker Street and you’ll find a secret festive rooftop cinema, complete with Christmas trees, fur throws and fairy lights. Floating Film Festival at St Katharine Docks – if you like your movies buoyant, you’ll wanna spend some time at the Floating Film Festival. There’ll be screenings of Love Actually, Home Alone (1 & 2), Nightmare Before Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, Elf and The Grinch on a pontoon overlooking the St Katharine Docks, complete with deck chairs, blankets, festive drinks and food provided by local Turkish restaurant Kilikyas. BFI Southbank – masters of seasonal programming, the BFI Southbank will be screening a range of certified Christmas classics throughout December, with some less obvious picks thrown in too.
