film-loving folk behind Pillow Cinema want to revive independent film in Hackney and return The Castle cinema on Chatsworth Road to its former glory. The last film was screened in 1958, and since that time the building has been a bingo club, warehouse and snooker hall before becoming part of Eat17. The Pillow Cinema peeps plan to turn back the clock and re-open The Castle as an affordable, independent single-screen cinema showing a wide range of films, including new releases, arthouse movies and well-loved classics. But they need a helping hand, and that’s where the Kickstarter campaign comes in. They’re asking for £45,000 to cover the restoration costs and pay for all the cinema gear, and it’s an all-or-nothing situation, so dig deep film fans!
