After finding a permanent home for his first (mostly) vegan concept, the critically acclaimed chef has branched out with a new one
Somerset House has welcomed an exciting new café to its Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court as Rishim Sachdeva has launched Café Petiole at the neoclassical site. You’ve probably heard of Rishim from Tendril, his debut restaurant which launched as a permanent fixture of Mayfair’s Princes Street last summer and where he carved a niche with his ‘(mostly) vegan‘ menus. Now, with Café Petiole, the chef/founder has a second, more casual outpost for his trademark plant-first style.
The menu at the new site has been put together by Rishim with the help of Tarryn Williams, Tendril’s head of pastry, and features baked goods alongside takeaway and dine-in options for breakfast and lunch. You can expect the likes of:
- Grilled aubergine sabich with tabbouleh
- Mustard mushroom focaccia with daikon pickle
- Roasted golden beetroot, capsicum, pomegranate & feta salad
- Smoked grilled hispi cabbage & orzo
- ‘Blue corn tostadas with smoked artichoke & lime puree
- Pineapple, chilli & lime galette
- Lemon & poppy seed cake with black pepper curd
- Chocolate tahini caramel slice
- Tendril tiramisu
Café Petiole also serves up coffee and an all-vegan drinks list, promising a range of kombucha, beer and low-intervention wines from suppliers such as Basket Press, L.A. Brewery and Graft and Sustainable Wines. Plus, alongside the launch of Café Petiole, Rishim is releasing a range of take-home condiments, including ‘Chilli garlic’, ‘White bean spread’ and ‘Chinatown soy glaze’, which can be purchased exclusively at the café.
