A load of old train signs are available to purchase
In an effort to make travelling around the city easier, the Overground has just undergone a massive rebrand, moving from one orange colour and one name to individual colours and names for each of the six lines – Lioness (yellow), Mildmay (blue), Windrush (red), Weaver (maroon), Suffragette (green) and Liberty (grey). That means all the signs at each of the stations (as well as in-train maps and screens) have all had to be changed, so TfL now has a bunch of old Overground signs on its hands.
But they won’t just be shoved into storage as the London Transport Museum is selling them online, allowing you to own a piece of London’s transport history. There are lift signs, platform signs, way-finding signs and line diagrams for sale and they don’t come cheap; the smaller lift signs are around £150 – £200 while the larger line signs are between £700 – £950. All the money from the sale of the signs will go right back into the Museum to support its work as an education and heritage charity, so it is for a worthy cause, and they certainly make for a unique Christmas present.
