The Chinatown spot is heading east
Z He and Alex Peffly are bringing their signature steamed buns, with a big dollop of disco, to Shoreditch this winter. Opening on the corner of Brick Lane, Bun House Disco will transport you back to 1980s Hong Kong, where disco was big, nightclubs were booming and synthpop was the soundtrack. As well as a sparkling disco ball, the restaurant will feature retro striped booths, a maroon-tiled bar and an open kitchen where you can see buns and wontons being steamed.
During the day, the menu will centre around prawn and veggie wontons, served with dressings like black vinegar, hot & sour, dan dan, and ginger scallion, with wide noodles and soup available as additions if you want something slurpy. Come evening, the wonton menu will be shorter, supplemented by snacks, Cantonese sharing plates and steamed buns, including a new black sesame lava bun.
The cocktails at Bun House Disco will be classics with a Chinese twist, like a chrysanthemum martini, a cheung fun old fashioned and a mala margarita, and for those off the sauce, Z has handpicked a selection of herbal teas to be served.
Bun House Disco doesn’t officially open until 12th November but you’ll be able to get a little taster ahead of then as Z and Alex will be selling their signature buns for just 8p each for 88 minutes from 3.30pm on Fri 1st November and for 88p each for 88 minutes from 1.30pm on Sat 2nd November.
