bloody love a good old pie AND it’s British Pie Week, so what better time to celebrate one of our greatest gifts to the world. Come on, a whole week devoted to the eating of pies? We are SO down. Did you know the world’s most expensive pie was in 2005 at Fence Gate Inn, Lancashire, which came in at a whopping £8,195 a pie or £1,024 a slice, and the world’s heaviest pie weighed in at a mind blowing 5.37 tonnes. There’s endless choice with the nation loving steak and kidney, followed by steak and ale, then chicken and mushroom, with game pie coming bottom of the list. Where are you when it comes to the crust…prefer a puff pastry lid, a shortcrust pastry bottom, swap them round or a combination of either? There’s so many options. Best way to find out…go exploring.

To help you get in on the action, we’ve put together some damn fine creations we’ve tried and tested, from old school classics at the oldest pie and mash shop in town to the posh pie nosh with the sexiest crust, plus a bit a of wild card for those who are up for trying something new. So pie people, are you ready?
