Selfridges has had a whopping £300 million in investment and part of that cash has been spent on new all-day restaurant Brasserie of Light. Operated by Caprice Holdings, the brasserie will feature Pegasus, a 24ft crystal encrusted statue, which is London’s largest scale artwork by Damien Hirst – yes Richard Caring is not known for holding back. The rest of the space will look the part too (Martin Brudnizki has consulted on the design) with bold, art deco-inspired interiors.
Food-wise, it’s very much what you’d expect from a Caprice brasserie with dishes including scallops with red peppers, roasted fennel and capers; lobster spaghetti; pegasus pie with a yuzu coconut cloud; and for brunch, eggs and avo with turmeric and garlic hollandaise. The cocktail list will pay homage to Selfridges itself – the ‘Queen of Time’ (named after the sculpture above the main entrance) will be a twist on a kir royale and the ‘Est. 1909’, a mix of gin, elderflower and prosecco, is a nod to the opening date.
As well as being accessible from inside the store, Brasserie of Light will also have a dedicated entrance on Duke Street so the restaurant can open outside of the regular Selfridges hours – a first for the store, and necessary as we expect this to be one popular spot.
