Instead of letting the bits of apple leftover from juicing go into the bin, Irish brand Sampla is turning them into shoes. Yes really. Apple waste from the Italian juice industry gets turned into the 100% vegan material AppleSkin, and Sampla uses that material, along with organic cotton, responsibly-sourced super crepe and leftover PU from car manufacturing to make their unisex trainers.
Inspired by 70s and 80s classic tennis shoes, Sampla trainers are minimalist in design with white uppers, coloured tabs on the back, shock-absorbing soles made from natural rubber, and organic cotton laces. As well as being made from sustainable materials, the kicks are made in a small artisan workshop and sent in plastic-free packaging, and they also plant a tree for every pair made.
Sampla is currently running a Kickstarter campaign and it’s already hit its target, so you should be able to get your hands on these shoes very soon.
