Lots of activewear and athleisure brands talk a good game when it comes to sustainability and inclusivity but they’re two things that Ran By Nature, founded by Dr Bryna Chrismas, Associate Professor of Exercise Science, actively campaigns for.
As well as years of research in the field, Bryna has worked with women and underrepresented groups within sport and exercise, and with her brand she’s aiming to be truly inclusive. The garments, which run in sizes XXS to 4XL, are designed to be seasonless and functional. The collection includes leggings and tops as well as sweat-proof sports hijab and sports durags, designed in collab with Muslims and BAME/BIPOC from the Ran By Nature community. The brand donates 10% of the profits from those two items to Active Inclusion, and Black Trail Runners respectively, with 10% of the profits from all other pieces being donated to a different sports charity each month.
Ran By Nature creates all that activewear sustainability too, with small batch production in the UK. The garments are made from eco-friendly and recycled materials Econyl, Tencel and Amni Soul Eco; any elastic used is biodegradable and plastic free; their zips are made from recycled plastic; and any offcuts are used to make accessories like scrunchies so there’s zero-waste. And it all comes in recyclable and biodegradable packaging, including dissolvable product bags and seeded delivery slips, and sent using a carbon neutral shipping service.
