Toothpaste may be key to staying clean but it’s certainly not green. Over a billion single-use plastic toothpaste tubes are binned each year and waste cardboard from the boxes the tubes come in totalling over 1500 tonnes in the UK alone annually. Happier Toothpaste, from sustainable beauty brand Happier Beauty, is looking to change that with its aluminium tubes – aluminium is one of the easiest and most efficient materials to recycle and it doesn’t deteriorate in quality over time either so it can just keep on being reused.

Once you’ve squeezed every last bit of toothpaste out of a Happier tube (made easier thanks to the Easy Squeeze Key) the tube can go straight into your home metal recycling, and the white plastic cap can go in your home plastic recycling, or you can return the lids to Happier where they’ll be washed, sterilised and reused. Simple. Happier also send the tubes in 100% paper, recyclable padded envelopes with recycled and recyclable tissue paper, inserts and stickers.

Of course, what’s inside the tubes is also important; it’s dentist approved, Vegan Society certified, 100% cruelty-free toothpaste with no SLS, parabens, petrochemicals, artificial colours or flavours, with the fresh taste coming from four types of natural mint. And you get your toothpaste on a flexible subscription so you never have to worry about running out, not to mention you can save a few quid too.
