BRANDS TO BUYCOTT | #1 PANGAIA

If a brand is getting hyped by Pharrell for its ethical and sustainable clothing, then it must be doing something right. Pangaia is a materials science company that focuses on saving the environment through everyday lifestyle products, like clothes. Fashion is a notoriously polluting industry but the technologists, artists and designers at Pangaia have found a solution, creating a range of sustainable wardrobe essentials made from bio-materials, recycled plastic bottles and natural botanical dyes, delivered in compostable packaging.

For example, the seaweed fiber t-shirts are made from a saltwater seaweed and organic cotton mix, which is biodegradabe; coloured natural botanical dyes; and treated with natural peppermint oil to keep it fresher for longer, meaning less washes. As well as the tees, the collection includes hoodies, sweatshirts, joggers and shorts in block colours like cherry, vanilla pale blue, khaki and jade. They also have puffer jackets stuffed using FLWRDWN, a material made with (responsibly harvested) natural wild flowers that’s cruelty-free, biodegradable and hypoallergenic.

As well as making sure everything they produce is done ethically, Pangaia also gives back. The brand has partnered with SeaTrees, a blue-carbon, ocean focused platform working to reserve climate change effects, and for every item sold they are also donating to Doctors Without Borders. So if you’re looking for some new casuals to last through lockdown and beyond, these are the ones.
