A former blinds workshop on Hackney Road is now a natural wine bar thats proving a big hit with the locals. As a nod to its roots, they’ve kept the name Blinds, and the two-floor space also doubles up as a bottle shop and events space.
The wine menu centres around bottles with character from small, low-intervention producers. The team say they believe people deserve to know where their wine comes from – and the people who made it. It’s a seriously impressive selection and there are even more bottles available to take home.
But if you’re going for the wine, make sure to stay for the food. The menu is far from an afterthought and is designed to keep you drinking, looking like a snack-fest, but actually dinner in disguise. Graze on crisps coated in grated Comté with aioli or tins of spicy mussels, before moving on to a giant croque monsieur or one of their truly epic pies. We went for the ox cheek & root veg pie, which pairs perfectly with a chilled red, and we’re already planning on when we can go back for another. If that’s not enough to hook you in, everything is served with pickles. The dream.
In the space downstairs, you can limber up for pilates classes, attend one of their events or host your own party. It’s decked out with works from local artists, and is currently showing pieces by none other than our very own Ben. Blinding.
