English wine is having a serious moment, and Numbers Wine is one of our favourite homegrown producers. The winery has been blending low-intervention wine in the heart of Bethnal Green since 2023 and now we’re teaming up for an exclusive masterclass all about the bubbly.
On Saturday 5th September, our INSIDERS can join a hands-on workshop exploring the art of Pet Nat (Pétillant Naturel), believed to be the oldest method of making sparkling wine there is. Numbers co-founder Hugh Thorn will walk you through the fundamentals of natural sparkling fermentation, before handing over the reins as the group crafts its own Col Fondo-style Pet Nat. Wine making is thirsty work, we hear, so there’ll be plenty of Pet Nat flowing throughout the session to keep you going, plus a selection of cheeses to nibble on.
The class starts with a short history of Pet Nat and Col Fondo, followed by an in-depth introduction to fermentation. From there, the group will create a unique blend, choosing from a selection of rosé and white base wines. You’ll then learn how to bottle and seal your creation, complete with a personalised label of your own design (pretty bloody cool huh?).
Finally, Hugh will give you tips around aging, sediment management and how best to enjoy your wine. You’ll just need to decide who to drink it with….
These classes are usually £75, but you special people can get attend for under £70. That includes the full masterclass, with wine and cheese throughout, and the bottle to take home. So what are you waiting for?
