Brillo Turns One

Brillo, the Friday night takeover at Forno in Hackney, is turning one and it's celebrating with some special guests this May. As well as pizza and natural wines, you can expect vinyl-only sets from the likes of Ruby Francis, AVG, Hard Lines DJs, Rosa Theodora, and Hugo Arena.

Tilbury Yard Market

Tilbury Yard, under the railway arches on Tilbury Road in Leyton, is launching a weekly market, running on Fridays and Saturdays, featuring street food, music and events. Deccapo’s Pizza, Gochugang, and Borobudu will be among the food vendors, with everything from open mic performances, live graffiti and robot wars happening in May.

Lokanta Tokyo at Dükkan

Turkish-Japanese concept Lokanta Tokyo, which serves Turkish “lokanta” food through a distinctly Japanese lens, is returning to Dükkan in Hoxton for a one-night-only pop-up. The menu includes dishes like pide with ponzu butter, spicy ezme & kombu-cured seabass, tempura stuffed mussels & tarama, lamb heart with tare & lentil hummus, and miso-glazed short rib with sweet potato.

Gim London x Hiya Fried

If you didn't want to brave five hour queues for Korean food at the Jung food festival last weekend, you'll want to head down to this pop-up. Gimbap concept Gim is teaming up with fried chicken trader Hiya Fried for a collab menu featuring Korean fried chicken burgers, fried chicken gimbap, chewy fried Korean style potatoes and butter tteok mochi.

Heard x Akoko Collab Menu

Two Michelin-starred chef Jordan Bailey is doing his first ever guest chef collab at his burger spot Heard, and he's teaming up with Aji Akokomi of Michelin-starred Akoko to do it. The collab menu will feature West African flavours across a burger, fries and a dessert. There's The Akoko burger features aged-British beef patty, seasoned with Aji's special spice blend and topped with tamarind jam, sosu kaani purée, yassa-spiced caramelised onions, goat’s cheese and shallots, with a dibi dipping sauce on the side. You can pair that with kelewele salt and shallot crumb fries and a calabash nutmeg ice cream sandwich made with a white chocolate cookie and guava jam.

Mambow's Sunday Cookouts Series feat. Decatur

The next instalment of Mambow's Sunday Cookout Series is happening this May, with Abby Lee welcoming Tom Zahir of Decatur into the kitchen. They'll be cooking up a six-course menu blending Tom's Cajun and Creole style with Malay flavours, meaning dishes like Malay spiced grattons, tete de cochon with crispy rice, garlic fried chicken, Assam Pedas crawfish & fixins, and Kesar mango pie a la mode.

The next guest in Levan's The French Connection series is Parisian wine bar Déviant. Head chef Jeff Schilde will be cooking up a long boozy lunch over at Levan featuring some of Déviant's signature dishes, before the party moves next door to Bar Levan.

Magnolia Bakery at Café Ciel

NYC's iconic Magnolia Bakery is popping up at Café Ciel, inside Raffles London this spring. The hotel courtyard is being transformed into a blooming garden to celebrate
Chelsea Flower Show, with Magnolia Bakery collaborating on a menu of sweet treats for an outdoor kiosk. The famous banana pudding will be on offer, alongside a sticky toffee pudding, an iced banana matcha pudding, and an iced coffee with banana pudding on top. Café Ciel will also be doing spesh brunch dishes inspired by NYC, including banoffee French toast, cinnamon swirl pancakes, banana pudding affogato, and NYC bagels.

Filipino Thai Friendship at My Neighbours the Dumplings

Filipino Thai Friendship, run by Dow of Ginn Khao and Tintin from Swilipino, is starting a new weekly residency at My Neighbours the Dumplings in Clapton. Running Weds & Thurs, you'll be able to get dishes like pork & prawn wonton tom yum soup; seabass kinilaw; palo short rib with chilli vinegar; chicken & prawn schnitzel; stuffed tofu puffs with peanut sauce; and coconut sorbet with fish sauce caramel, peanuts and crispy mung beans.
