BERENJAK GOES TO BOROUGH MARKET

When hyped bakery Flor shut its doors at the beginning of the year, everyone wondered what JKS Restaurant would be replacing it. The answer is Kian Samyani’s Iranian restaurant Berenjak, which is bringing its charcoal-grilled kababs and signature mazeh small plates to Borough Market. There’ll be several new home-style Iranian dishes at the restaurant, such as rotisserie saffron chicken zereshk pollow, lamb fillet kabab with tadig, and lamb shanks with dill & broad bean tadig, and Berenjak Borough will also have more more cocktails and wines than the original. The small Soho joint, which opened in 2018 and has a Michelin Bib Gourmand, always has a queue out the door and is loved by foodies, celebs and models alike – Dua Lipa and the Hadids are regulars.

The site’s two floors of Victorian architecture will be transformed into a Persian townhouse: downstairs, high stools around an open kitchen counter will be reminiscent of Berenjak Soho, while upstairs high ceilings and low-slung banquettes upholstered with richly hued fabrics and piled high with cushions will create the feel of a chic, comfy living space. The interiors will be warmly decorated with vintage Persian rugs, books, candles, dried flowers, Iranian photography, plus artworks and calligraphy from the region. Stained glass, patterned tiles, hanging plants, and a centrepiece chandelier will also lend life and colour to the space, so it’s going to be one good looking spot.
