We’ve
been waiting and waiting for the next restaurant to take up a space in those Arches in Haggerston and finally here it is! Berber & Q, a Middle Eastern and North African grill house, will open 21st April, 2015.The menu, spilt into ‘Meat’, ‘Vegetables’, ‘Sandwiches’ and ‘Sweets’ will be focused around the mangal, charcoal grill and smoker – Berber and Q, ya g’eddit? Meats include the Lamb Mechoui, pulled forequarter of lamb eaten by hand (WASH YOUR HANDS PEOPLE!); Quail with rose and plum yoghurt; and Beef Kefta with walnut and apricot. The changing menu will include ‘Vegetables’ of Blackened aubergine with walnut and tahini; Cauliflower with turmeric and lime butter and Glazed beetroot with date syrup and whipped feta.
The sauces are homemade – think Zhug, red chilli sauce and green tahini, and all orders will come with griddled Israeli Ciapita and Berber house salad.
There will be wines from small producer and a Middle Eastern cocktail list featuing the SazARAK, Scammed in Marakesh Punch and Haggerstoned. We’re in.
