Family-run architects Squire & Partners, who own The Department Store in Brixton (home to their offices and the Upstairs members club), is adding a new workspace to the complex. As well as office space, The Department Store Studios will also be home to new restaurant and bar Bellefields on the ground floor and courtyard.
The restaurant will be inspired by the seven seas of the Mediterranean, from the Aegean to the Balearic sea to the Levantine basin, so Head Chef James Mathieson, has created dishes like taramasalata with padron peppers, grilled octopus with butter beans & spinach, pork souvlaki with tzatziki & pickles, linguine vongole, roast squash with baba ganoush & pine nuts, and baklava. As well as plenty of wine from the region to go with the food, Bellefields will also have a Mediterranean gin menu with varieties coming from Spain, Greece and Italy. And, as the place is being opened by architects, you can bet it’s gonna be a good looking spot too.
