East-London based artist Lakwena is bringing the colour to Shoreditch this weekend with her brand new design for Beefeater Gin and a pop-up gallery showcasing nine people working across disciplines like art, dance and food, who embody the energy and multiculturalism of the capital.

She has curated the selection of creatives featured in The Spirit of London gallery, whose portraits have been shot by Kiran Gidda and a short bio detailing how London has inspired and shaped them, according to three mottos she’s made that sum up ‘the spirit of London’. They are:

  • We Mix and Blend – embodied by a street-food chef, a mixologist and a coffee artist, who all create fusions of flavours inspired by the mix of people and cultures in London
  • We Work and Play – a DJ, a roller skate performer and spoken-word poet illustrate how London offers endless opportunities for people to pursue their dreams
  • We Move and Shake – this city is ever-changing and the people that live here have learnt to be determined and adaptable, showcased by a Bollywood choreographer, an at-home nail artist and a photographer

Entry to the gallery is FREE and you’ll be able to sip on complimentary Beefeater gin & tonics whilst you check out the portraits. A Lakwena mural is also going up outside of the Beefeater Gin Distillery in Kennington, the oldest gin distillery in London, and from 10th October, The Spirit of London gallery will be moving there so you can explore it when you take a distillery tour.
